Nirvana 'WNFX 8th Birthday Party'

Nirvana: The Road to Greatness

WFNX was the first terrestrial radio station to play Nirvana. We were known for putting on massive concerts for charity, this show was the WFNX 8th Birthday party. For a $5 dollar donation you could see 12 bands in 4 clubs on one street – Lansdowne Street in Boston, MA. All the bands got interviewed before taking the stage.

I captured Dave and Kurt talking to Kurt St. Thomas. I remember sharing a smoke with Dave Grohl, who was funny and fooling around just enjoying the moment. Nirvana headlined at Axis, one of the clubs, it holds about 300 people max, also on the set list was The Smashing Pumpkins and Bullet LaVolt. While Nirvana was on stage I didn’t take any photos…should have, but really just wanted to watch the show. So blown away, the power, the noise, the moment of seeing greatness, and we all know what happened next.
